The first documented and proven settlements existed around 700 years ago. Three small farm houses formed the picture of the valley. Travelers came every now and then to go over the Stelvio in the next valley. Nobody voluntarily climbed up the mountain. Not until the Austrian-Hungarian Empire started to make land carts in the area, did the first people reach the top of mountains.
